Microscope rates are set by UMass administration.  Current rates are listed below.

Tier 1 includes the multiphoton, STORM, HCA, and laser capture.

UMass and 5 College rate is $28/hr during 9AM-5PM weekdays.
Other academic rate TBD
External rate is $48/hr

Tier 2 includes the spinning disk, A1R, A1SP, and patch clamp rig.

UMass and 5 College rate is $18/hr during 9AM-5PM weekdays.
Other academic rate TBD
External rate is $31/hr

 

Training

FAQ

Q1) How to I get trained?
A1) Register yourself at the Facility Online Manager site and use the contact form to get in touch.  For scheduling, please see the calendar of non-busy times on the right side of this page.

Q2) How do I find out about the available microscopes?
A2) Check our our microscope page.

Q3) How should I acknowledge the Light Microscope Facility in manuscripts?
A3) Please include the following statement (or similar): The microscopy data was gathered in the Light Microscopy Facility and Nikon Center of Excellence at the Institute for Applied Life Sciences, UMass Amherst with support from the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center.

Q4) How can I open and view my nd2 file data on my own laptop or desktop computer?
A4) There are lots of options, two of which are free. Option 1) Download the NIS-Viewer application to open and display nd2 files or option 2) download the free app called Fiji (http://fiji.sc). With Fiji, you can open the nd2 files and do all kinds of processing. Of course, the third option is to make use of the 3 workstations that are available in the LMF.
